Kléber Rossillon, the operator of the Cosquer Caves, faced a unique challenge in delivering a seamless and clear audio guide experience for visitors traveling on the cave railway system deep underground. The environment's inherent noise made standard open headsets unsuitable, necessitating a specialized solution to ensure uninterrupted and crystal-clear commentary.
Solution/Outcome
Sycomore, the arts and culture brand of Vox Group, rose to the challenge by developing a custom-made audio guide system specifically for the Cosquer Caves. This bespoke device, built on a proprietary electronic card and housed within the Vox Digital Radio casing, was a special-purpose version of the popular S-Guide audio system. The innovative solution provided visitors with crystal-clear audio, even in the challenging underground environment, greatly enhancing customer engagement. The introduction of this extra product has proven to be an added value service, contributing to a significant increase in visitor numbers and overall satisfaction. The success of this new system underscores the effectiveness of Sycomore’s tailored approach to meet the unique demands of cultural and historical venues.
The Result
With guides speaking into a Vox transmitter pre-set to its own unique frequency, voice commentary was clearly heard by passengers within a 200-metre radius, allowing each tour to flow in a fluid motion and removing the need for the guides to raise their voice. Princess Cruises and their passengers were highly satisfied with their Kirkwall experience. With this increase in customer satisfaction Prince Cruises decided to include Vox Tour Guide Systems in their 2018 UK programme. European Cruise Service now have included the Vox Tour Guide System as an inexpensive, added-value option to complement any future client shore excursion programmes.
