Platanos Tours, an established incoming travel agency based in Rethymnon, Crete, specialises in providing flights, tickets, accommodation, and daily tours across the island. With popular transfers connecting Rethymnon to iconic destinations like the Knossos archaeological site, Heraklion City, and Chania City, they aimed to elevate their offerings by creating a more engaging and informative travel experience. By incorporating an audio guide solution, Platanos Tours sought to add value to their existing transfer services and cater to international guests looking to discover Crete’s cultural riches at their own pace.
Solution/Outcome
Vox Group partnered with Platanos Tours to develop comprehensive audio guide solutions for all three destinations. Utilising POPGuide’s smartphone-based platform, Vox created city maps enriched with expert commentary for Heraklion and Chania, as well as a detailed map and multilingual audio guides for the Knossos archaeological site. These guides enable travellers to immerse themselves in the historical and cultural narratives of each location, independently exploring key attractions and gaining deeper insights into Crete’s heritage. By integrating Vox Group’s audio guides into their daytime transfers, Platanos Tours enhanced the package value, providing an added value service to customers. Guests can now enjoy seamless cultural discovery during their journey, whether included in the transfer price or purchased as an extra product. This innovative approach not only broadens Platanos Tours’ programme of experiences but also significantly increases customer engagement and satisfaction, setting them apart as a forward-looking operator committed to delivering exceptional, content-rich travel experiences in Crete.
The Result
With guides speaking into a Vox transmitter pre-set to its own unique frequency, voice commentary was clearly heard by passengers within a 200-metre radius, allowing each tour to flow in a fluid motion and removing the need for the guides to raise their voice. Princess Cruises and their passengers were highly satisfied with their Kirkwall experience. With this increase in customer satisfaction Prince Cruises decided to include Vox Tour Guide Systems in their 2018 UK programme. European Cruise Service now have included the Vox Tour Guide System as an inexpensive, added-value option to complement any future client shore excursion programmes.
